Sudarshan Kriya -- an alternate way to good health

From a Correspondent

ITANAGAR, May 18: There is a breath of good health spreading in Arunachal Pradesh. Thanks to the Art of Living’s unique breathing technique Sudarshan Kriya, many people are reporting a remarkable improvement in their health and overall wellness.

“I went to the Art of Living course hoping it will help me in my sleep problem. I was not able to sleep properly for last four years. It was taking a big toll on my life. Not only my health was deteriorating day by day, but also I was becoming very irritable and a nervous wreck. Even sleeping pills have stopped having any effect. But on the night I experienced the Sudarshaan  Kriya, I could sleep so deep that I almost forgot the sufferings of so many years! Next day, I went to office feeling so happy and fresh that everybody noticed it. It was the happiest day in my life. I felt a big burden was lifted off my head,” shares Kemjum Basar. “After regular practice for a few days, my health has become almost normal,” she adds.

“Before coming to Art of Living, my mind was always occupied with my health. I was almost depressed just thinking I am ill. All kind of treatments weren’t helping me much. But after learning the Sudarshan Kriya, not only has my health improved, but the constant thought of being ill has disappeared completely. And that feeling of being not unwell, is helping improve all my health parameters” says Anu Lama who did the Art of Living Course three months ago.

“And with this kind of experiences, more and more people in Arunachal Pradesh are turning to Art of Living as an alternate way to good health,”  says Art of Living Faculty Rajaque Rahman. “It’s very logical and scientific. According to the science of breath 80 to 90 percent of the toxins from the body are eliminated through the breath. But an average individual uses only 30 to 35 percent of his or her lung capacity. Because of this mismatch in capacity, toxins get accumulated in the body and it leads to disease,” he explains. “Just by harnessing the way we breathe, one can attain good health quite effortlessly,” he says.

Sudarshan Kriya is a rhythmic breathing technique designed by His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and it harnesses specific natural rhythms of the breath to harmonize the body, mind and emotions. It cleanses different layers of our existence of stress and past experiences. It eliminates stress, fatigue and negative emotions such as anger, frustration and depression, leaving the mind calm, focused and the body energized, completely relaxed.

“Breath is the main source of prana - the vital life-force energy. Prana is the very basis of health and well-being. When the prana is high, one feels healthy, alert and energetic. Sudarshan Kriya elevates the prana by flushing out toxins and accumulated stress,” he explains.

Independent medical research has demonstrated significant falls in cortisol levels, known as the ‘stress hormone’ among Sudarshan Kriya practitioners, suggesting that greater levels of both relaxation and resilience to stress. A study by All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, concluded that regular practice of the Sudarshan Kriya improves the blood cholesterol profile with significant drops in total cholesterol and LDL (harmful) cholesterol, as well as increases in HDL (beneficial) cholesterol.

In a study conducted by National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, the researchers found that the breathing techniques taught by the Art of Living were as effective as drugs in treating depression and the result came without any side-effects. After practicing the Sudarshan Kriya, brain wave patterns were found to stabilize and there was an increase in serum prolactin count.

Development project should not be affected

Though Congress party was decimated in the rest of the country in Parliamentary elections, the grand old party of the country managed to come back to power in Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections. The Congress won 42 seats including 11 uncontested and is all set to form next government in the state. At Delhi, BJP is readying to form next government with Narendra Modi as new prime of India. BJP lead NDA won massive 335 seats including one from Arunachal.

The prospect of Congress government in Arunachal and BJP at Delhi looks interesting. This will test the central-state relation to the fullest. Large number of development projects announced by UPA government for Arunachal is still being implemented. If these projects are to be completed on time, the continuous central funding will be required. In this context, it is important that BJP government should continue to support developmental activities being undertaken in Arunachal without discriminating on party basis.

Irregularity in distribution of gas cylinder

Dear Editor,

Through your esteemed daily I would like to share the actual reason behind delay in delivery of domestic gas cylinder within capital complex. It is happening because majority of domestic gas are being diverted to commercial sector in various Hotels within capital, Government College Hostels including DNGC & RGPC,     Private Hostels etc. Remaining cylinders are all taken away by autocrats and bureaucrats.

The genuine consumers are being deprived. They receives refilled gas cylinder after a month of booking. Consumer’s right is being infringed but nobody seems to care. While applying for new gas connection only single cylinder is issued. This is injustice to consumers. Therefore I appeal to concerned authorities to kindly look into the matter very closely.

Yours,

Goda Dinung
