ALSU urges CS to accommodate all ministers at CM’s colony
ITANAGAR, May 18: Arunachal Law Students’ Union (ALSU) has demanded the Chief Secretary to accommodate all the cabinet ministers at the Chief Minister’s colony at Nitivihar here.
ALSU, however, stated that the Parliamentary Secretaries and other MLAs should be accommodated as per the convenience and availability of bungalows at any suitable location.
In the meantime, the Arunachal Civil Society (ACS) has criticized some newly elected MLAs for occupying government bungalows without maintaining the formality and procedures and urged the Chief Secretary to intervene the matter.
ACS chairman Patey Tayum claimed that most of the ministers’ bungalows have already been occupied by some newly elected leaders.
Eye awareness prog held
ITANAGAR, May 18: LT Eye Care, Itanagar organized an eye awareness programme to educate the people about some common eye diseases, causes of blindness and proper eye care practices here yesterday.
Addressing the participants in the programme, Dr. Lobsang Tsetim, consultant ophthalmologist of Ramakrishna Mission Hospital (RKMH) here informed how glaucoma, the 2nd leading causes of blindness in world, is creeping into common people in Arunachal.
Briefing the causes of blindness, he said that lack of awareness, negligence to consult with ophthalmologist and their suggestions are some of the main causes of widespread glaucoma.
He also stressed need of creating public awareness on glaucoma saying that it is (glaucoma) most common in older people.

Miscreants burn 29 houses at Tezu
ITANAGAR, May 18: At least 29 houses were set on fire at Tezu Kholla area of Tezu in Lohit district last night allegedly by some miscreants. There was no report of any loss of life.
The occupants were mostly daily wage earners, rickshaw pullers and fishermen from Bihar. Most of the houses were empty at the time of the incident as the occupants had already left for their native villages in Bihar after end of the election. Some of the occupants, who were sleeping in their houses on that fateful night, have somehow managed to escape from the inferno, according to a release.
The miscreants reportedly came on motorcycles and fled the spot after committing the crime.
Senior Congress leader Kalikho Pul rushed to the accident site from Anjaw and took stock of the situation.
Describing the incident as dastardly, Pul urged the Lohit Deputy Commissioner to investigate the matter immediately, arrest the perpetrators of the incident and punish them as per law so that such incident does not recur.
Pul appealed to the victims to cooperate with the district administration and police in the investigation so that the culprits can be brought to book at the earliest. He further assured the victims to provide relief and financial assistance from the government side.
The Deputy Commissioner has assured to take all necessary steps to ensure safety and security of life and properties of the citizens of the district and added that he will direct the police to be more vigilant and set up police pickets in all the vulnerable areas.

Irregularity in distribution of gas cylinder
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily I would like to share the actual reason behind delay in delivery of domestic gas cylinder within capital complex. It is happening because majority of domestic gas are being diverted to commercial sector in various Hotels within capital, Government College Hostels including DNGC & RGPC, Private Hostels etc. Remaining cylinders are all taken away by autocrats and bureaucrats.
The genuine consumers are being deprived. They receives refilled gas cylinder after a month of booking. Consumer’s right is being infringed but nobody seems to care. While applying for new gas connection only single cylinder is issued. This is injustice to consumers. Therefore I appeal to concerned authorities to kindly look into the matter very closely.
